Updates on My Indie Dev Journey
1. A New Minimalist App for Sober Tracking
I finally launched Sober Tracker — Be Sober, a super simple app for those quitting alcohol. It’s just a tracker with a check-in reminder and a single (okay, two) buttons — minimalism at its finest.
I’ve wanted to build something like this for a while. It’s in the same spirit as Vodokhleb — just a straightforward, no-nonsense tool. Let’s see how it performs!
2. Personal Branding: A Necessary Evil?
I took the plunge and rebranded all my accounts to my real name:
The indie dev scene seems to agree — personal branding matters. Not sure if I buy into the whole concept, but at least everything looks cleaner now.
Interestingly, ever since I started posting YouTube Shorts, I’ve noticed a small but steady trickle of traffic. Maybe there’s something to this after all.
3. Marketing or Death: Time to Get Serious
Today, I’m launching my first cringe TikTok ad for the app.
I’ve been avoiding marketing for too long, but the reality is: without marketing, nothing works. Either I figure this out, or I switch to another category altogether.
For now, the plan is to run multiple social media accounts dedicated to my apps and post relevant content there. Will it work? We’ll find out soon.
4. The Hashtag Experiment
I’ve been doing some digging, and it turns out hashtags are pretty much useless now. Most social media platforms seem to ignore them entirely. Still, I’m running some tests to confirm.
(P.S. TikTok might be the exception — it still seems to favor hashtags.)
Would love to hear your thoughts — especially if you have any insights on indie app marketing or TikTok growth! 🚀
