Singapore (2018)

Here’s the post about Singapore (also from 2018, I need to write a fresh one):

I also really liked Singapore. On the first day, it was very annoying because the heat and humidity were very intense, not like in Hong Kong, but still crazy + there were expectations that everything was nicely done for pedestrians. Well, it’s not like that, it’s generally not bad for pedestrians, but Tokyo is much better. And in Japan overall. On the level of Seoul, you can get to many places, but walking is not as interesting.

Places. There are a lot of cool places worth visiting here. The city is essentially built in the jungles, and there are a lot of cool parks around. Besides parks, there are quite a few exhibitions and shopping centers here. Of course, the Marina Bay Sands area stands out. Rich people live there and there are very cool Cloud Forest and the hotel itself. And the gardens at Marina Bay. Overall, a very cool and technological area. As a person who doesn’t particularly like (I would even say dislikes) all sorts of antiquities and stucco, I really liked it. But the areas recommended for tourists, like Little India — seemed just like a dump with a bunch of guys.

People. I really liked that English is really the main language in essence and everyone knows it. All the signs are essentially written in English and duplicated in other languages. People are different, in the Indian quarter — didn’t like them, but otherwise top-notch. In general, in Singapore, there are very big fines for everything and order is felt (not in Little India).

Forgot to mention food. As everywhere in Asia — I don’t like the food. Typical Asian food made of seafood, rice, and other Asian stuff. (in 2024 — I like the food)

Overall, the impressions are of course less than from Japan, but what I would recommend to everyone is the Singapore Zoo. It’s amazing and rightfully one of the best in the world. If not the best. The animals live in large enclosures, not cages. And for children, it will be an amazing walk. Also, I highly recommend the Cloud Forest. It’s very atmospheric.
